Right to sports and sports in the international legal system between the protection of fundamental rights and the pursuit of peace: some considerations on sports measures against Russia

Abstract

The paper investigates both the existence of a fundamental right to sport in international law – that is, if and in what terms the international legal order imposes to States to guarantee individuals to practice sport – and the ways in which international law impacts on the governance of sport, especially with regard to the prohibition of discrimination and the actions taken for the pursuit of peace, with particular attention to the recent case of the measures adopted against Russia.
